Nicole Funchess

  • Nicole was born and raised in southern Louisiana and grew up in the New Orleans area. She eventually moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she attended Louisiana State University for undergraduate and law school. Upon graduating law school in 2018 and receiving her Louisiana bar license, Nicole began her legal career as a public defender with a zealous passion for fighting for her clients’ rights. Throughout her time as a public defender, Nicole developed keen trial and courtroom skills as the job entailed daily courtroom appearances. Not only was Nicole in charge of a full felony docket, but she also represented parents in Dependency and Neglect cases to regain custody of their children and keep parental rights intact. Nicole’s time as a public defender, where she handled hundreds of contested hearings and trials, has led to her unique ability to strategize in litigation and posture her clients for the best possible outcome in court.

Although Louisiana was the only home Nicole had known, the mountains and beauty of Colorado compelled her to take the plunge and apply for the Colorado bar exam. Despite working full-time as a public defender while simultaneously studying, Nicole passed the Colorado bar on her first try and moved across the country to Denver just one month after receiving her license.

In addition to continuing criminal defense, Nicole also chose to expand to Family Law once arriving in Colorado to continue the fight for her clients’ rights, with the best interests of every child at the forefront of her approach to litigation.
